Advanced Public Relations Writing II, Fall 2017
This class was assigned the task of representing (a mock university) Atlantic University as a part of their public relations team. There was an opening of a new building, Sophia Gordon Center of Creative and Performing Arts. So, I created a news release as well as a media advisory, letter to an editor, photos, and a fact sheet. I also created an infographic and newsletter using Adobe InDesign to promote Atlantic University.
The university is based in Salem, Massachusetts. I chose navy and an aqua blue to represent the colors of the university to portray the ocean on its good and bad days. All students and faculty have their positive and negative days. In the end, the waves we are all on, crash, return to the ocean and recreated themselves. I retrieved the ship graphic from Creative Commons and created the two waves behind the ship myself through InDesign.
The pieces are fictional, however, each are based off of real events, people, and organizations.

Atlantic University's fact sheet includes basic facts regarding the university as well as information about the opening of the Sophia Gordon Center. It describes the enrollment, programs, architects, and the highest donors.

The news release depicts the unveiling of the Sophia Gordon Center for Creative and Performing Arts. It entails information about a ceremony and the awards being given to Atlantic University.
|
The media advisory for the celebration of the Sophia Gordon Center holds more in depth information about days, times. awards, and who will be in attendance.
|
A letter to the editor piece, this was a request to The Architect's Newspaper. It was an invitation as well as an opportunity for them to feature a new building with unique architectural concepts as well as Atlantic University receiving publicity.
|
A vital part to a media kit, these are three photographs included to show what the newly constructed Sophia Gordon Center for Creative and Performing Arts looks like.
|
Created through InDesign, I chose three reasons to describe why students should attend Atlantic University. I chose academics, location, and affordability. I went with practical reasons, Atlantic University offers a wide array of programs, it's located near major roadways and cities (job and internship opportunities), and is affordable to attend.

This newsletter I named The Anchor, highlights university news, students, and organizations. The main story describes the opening ceremony for the Sophia Gordon Center. Feature Friday tells the story of a former Atlantic University students journey after college. Finally, the editorial depicts the diving club and their mission to clean up the beaches.
